INTRODUCING HOT LUNCH

 

I'm excited to announce the launch of our brand new lesson promotion, Hot Lunch!

 

I often think about how the Gallagher School may create unique promos for its students; something that has great value and provides a way to showcase our teachers in the network.  

After observing companies like Groupon, Jamie and I were inspired to revisit some ideas related to discount lesson packages.  We had a really hilarious brainstorming session  and eventually hit upon Hot Lunch.  The name may sound a bit cheesy, considering its play on our "school" thing, but the idea also reflects some fun with personal memories.

Back in the good ol' days, grade school style, we students were treated to Thursday hot lunch  about once a month.  It was something I really looked forward to because the opportunity to eat tasty, "hot" meals was seemingly more rare and satisfying than my usual bagged lunches. We're talkin' sloppy, sloppy joes!

Anyway, in the spirit of all things savory, Gallagher School now offers lesson deals for guitar, bass, and drums to interested students at incredibly discounted prices.

ESPERANZA SPALDING

This is my first post on the Gallagher School blog, and there's a bunch of stuff I'm thinking of writing in the future, but for now I'm just going to say a quick hello and introduce you all to a fantastic bass player I just heard about today. I don't know too much about her yet (maybe some of you have been long-time fans and can enlighten me a bit), but Esperanza Spalding definitely caught my attention today when I heard her interviewed on NPR's All Things Considered.

She's a jazz bass player and composer, and apparently she's got a new album out called Chamber Music Society.

I highly recommend you check out her interview and listen to her solo bass performance of her interpretation of a William Blake poem, "The Fly." The song starts around the 10-minute mark, but the whole interview is worth a listen.

Welcome to the Gallagher School blog!

My brother Jamie and I are private music instructors, teaching guitarists and drummers to develop their musical skills in the great city of Chicago.  We do our work through a music teacher network we created called the Gallagher School of Guitar & Drums. You can find out more at our About page.

Gallagher School blog is our way of sharing points of view about music education, with both students and teachers in mind.  We set out to cover many topics and important roles of  participation within music, including performance, creativity (composition, song, improvisation), and listening.

It also provides a space for our network instructors to offer their musical insights, tips, suggestions, and resources.
